Advert Description

A lovely footed bowl, beautifully patterned both inside and out. Backstamp: George Jones & Sons Abbey 1790 Made in England.
Item AB43 and shape 461 in the Geo Jones catalogue, this being the next to largest of six sizes. Excellent condition.
NO surface scratching inside to the base

This pattern was originally known as ABBEY WREATH and had been produced by WILLIAM ADAMS in the 1840s.
GEORGE JONES bought many of the ADAMS patterns in 1861, this being one of them. JONES reissued the pattern when the craze for earlier china patterns was at its height. The ABBEY pattern is much more commonly found in blue transfer. Marked on the bottom in blue transfer: ABBEY, 1790, ENGLAND and impressed with the JONES logo
