GREAT CLASSIC AMONG THE HERALDRY MANUALS, by Father Ménestrier (1631-1705), considered one of the most learned men and the "philosopher of images". The ingenious Jesuit was the great organizer of the solemn entrances and funeral decorations that King Louis XIV will entrust to him. This work by Menestrier on coats of arms earned the author the title of notable writer of Voltaire in "Le Siècle de Louis XIV". "He regarded the coat of arms as one of the most serious studies in a monarchical country. One cannot believe what imagination and science he employed in this study."
The work has been repeatedly republished due to its ease of use and accuracy.
